Berekum Chelsea lost 1-0 to FC Samartex in Samreboi on April 12 in a Ghana Premier League Week 29 tie but the “VIP” bus the club was in during its trip back to Berekum was attacked by armed robbers.
The attack forced members of the team to flee to nearby bushes for safety but Chelsea forward Dominic Frimpong suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was later confirmed dead.
Later on Monday, April 13, the Berekum Chelsea contingent arrived in Berekum but in a Gold Stars bus and speaking in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Oti-Manu shed light on the club’s immediate support to Chelsea.

“We are in the same Premier League with them. My CEO [Akwasi Adu] went to the scene and…our management felt we should give them a very good [accommodation] so that we can travel them back to their place.”

“ It goes beyond football. I think it’s in the right order because the incident that happened last night it was very bad and terrible” Oti-Manu said.
