Manchester United interim head coach Michael Carrick says his side deserved to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in their English Premier League clash.

The Red Devils secured a 1–0 win, with the decisive goal coming from Matheus Cunha in the 43rd minute after an assist from Bruno Fernandes.

Both teams entered the game on the back of disappointing results, with Chelsea suffering a 3–0 home defeat to Manchester City, while United fell 2–1 to Leeds United at Old Trafford.

Speaking to the BBC after the win, Carrick stressed the importance of responding to the Leeds defeat, describing the victory as a “deserved” result.

“The set-backs we have had the last few days, the centre-back partnership we had it would be a bit of a challenge but I felt the defence was immense in difficult circumstances.”

“We looked dangerous on the break. The performance, to come here and win, we had to be disciplined and the attitude was top drawer for me tonight and we got the win which we are delighted about. We feel it was deserved” he said.
