Roberto De Zerbi has delivered a fiery rallying cry to Tottenham Hotspur, urging everyone connected to the club to block out negativity as they battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Despite finally securing their first league win of 2026 against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Spurs remain in the drop zonetwo points behind West Ham United with just four games left.
Speaking ahead of a crucial clash with Aston Villa, De Zerbi launched into an emotional four-minute monologue, identifying mentality not tactics as Tottenham’s biggest obstacle this season

“The most important challenge now is to silence the voice inside of us,” he said.
“It tells us we are unlucky, we have injuries, the pitch is bad, everything is bad. It’s all negative—\ and it’s rubbish.”
The Italian coach made it clear he will not tolerate a defeatist mindset at such a critical stage of the season.
De Zerbi, who took charge in March as Spurs’ third manager of a turbulent campaign, dismissed excuses ranging from injuries to infrastructure issues.
Even the absence of key players like Xavi Simons; highlighted as one of the team’s most influential performerswas not enough to justify the club’s struggles in his eyes.

“It’s like we’re already relegated,” he continued.
“No, not yet. We have to die on the pitch.”
Tottenham’s run-in offers no easy escape route.
After facing Aston Villa away, they must still navigate fixtures against Leeds United, Chelsea FC and Everton FC.
De Zerbi’s message was blunt and uncompromising: survival will not be achieved through excuses, but through belief and fight.
“The losers cry,” he said. “They think negative. I don’t want people close to me thinking that way.”

A Club at the Crossroads
For Tottenham, the stakes could hardly be higher.
Relegation would mark their first drop from the top flight since 1977; a historic fall for one of England’s most prominent clubs.
But with just two points separating them from safety, hope remains alive.
Now, as De Zerbi insists, it is no longer about what has gone wrong but about whether Spurs can find the mentality to put it right when it matters most.
