With several top seeded players eliminated, Women’s Tennis World Number One Aryna Sabalenka, was expected to win her first French Open.
However, the Belarusian was shocked in her quarterfinal matchup by Russian Diana Shnaider providing the latest upset in the 2026 French Open.
Sabalenka lost 6-3, 5-7, 0-6 in shocking fashion to the 25th seeded player Shnaider who qualified to the semifinal stage of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career.
Speaking to reporters after the big upset, Sabalenka was utterly distraught stating she fell into a dark hole and couldn’t come out of it.
“No thoughts, no emotions. Just want to quit tennis right now.I don’t know when was the last time that I lost 10 games in a row.”

“Mentally I got into very deep, deep, dark hole over there, and I just couldn’t get back on track. We’ll see in few days. Hopefully I’ll get back on track mentally.”

Diana Shnaider takes on Maja Chwalinska in the semifinals on Thursday, June 4.
