Co-hosts Mexico booked their place in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 victory over Ecuador in their Round of 32 clash.
Playing in front of their home fans, Mexico secured a comfortable win to become the latest nation to advance to the last 16 of the tournament.

Mexico have never progressed beyond the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup, but they have emerged as one of the standout teams at this year’s tournament. They have won all four of their matches, scored eight goals and are yet to concede.
The victory means Mexico will face the winner of the Round of 32 clash between England and DR Congo in the Round of 16 on July 5.

Mexico’s victory also extends their unbeaten run in the tournament, with four wins from four matches.
Teams confirmed for the Round of 16 so far are Paraguay, Canada, Morocco, Brazil, Norway, France and Mexico. Ecuador’s defeat brings their 2026 World Cup campaign to an end.
