Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas has stated that she has received death threats over an incident involving Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark. (Scroll down to watch video)
In the Mercury’s 111-109 win over the Fever in the WNBA regular season, Thomas was captured with her fist landing on star player Clark’s throat.
Thomas was later punished by the WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association) via a one game suspension but the veteran player has since stated that the incident was an accident while confessing that she and her teammates have received death threats.
“It’s unfortunate that it’s come to this over basketball. A lot of us – myself included – didn’t even know the play took place until after the game. There’s death threats out on us. It’s really unacceptable.”

“It’s really something that needs to change in this league and I’m just really sick and tired of it. People are sending racial slurs and all types of stuff. The hatred that we’re experiencing over a play that, honestly, was a complete accident” she said.
