Pape Thiaw has been dismissed from his role as Senegal National Men’s Football Team head coach in the wake of the Teranga Lions’ elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Thiaw’s Senegal crashed out of the competition at the round of 32 stage after losing 3-2 to Belgium despite holding a 2-0 lead for 85 minutes in the game.
The shocking collapse against Belgium led to Pape Gueye’s retirement from the team after falling out with Thiaw.
According to French news portal L’Equipe, Senegal’s Football Federation has proceeded to sack Thiaw from his role in a release dated Sunday, July 12.
“Following the meeting of the Executive Committee (of the FSF), it was decided to initiate a procedure to terminate the functions of national coach Pape Thiaw as well as the entire technical staff” a section of the release stated.

Former Crystal Palace and Genoa head coach Patrick Vieira has been tipped as Thiaw’s successor.
