France National Men’s Football Team head coach Didier Deschamps has taken full responsibility for the part he played in France’s 6-4 loss to England.
The French team missed out on winning the bronze medal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup due to the loss to England in what was Deschamps’ final game in charge of the team.
In his time as France head coach, the former captain won the 2018 World Cup title and finished second at the 2022 edition behind Argentina.
In his farewell game, France capitulated in the first half and trailed 4-0 at half time but recovered well in the second half to deliver a brilliant finish to end the game and Deschamps took the blame for the horrendous start to the game.
“It is a defeat, but we were 4-0 down. We produced an unacceptable first half.”

“There was a reaction, with the things we know how to do well. We had two chances to make it 4-4, but we pushed forward a little more.”

“That is what we know how to do, but we didn’t do it. It is my fault because I must not have done what was needed in the first half” Deschamps said after the game.
