The 2026 Commonwealth Games officially opened in Glasgow on Thursday with a ceremony celebrating Scottish culture and welcoming more than 3,000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations and territories.

Held at the OVO Hydro, the ceremony marked the start of the 11-day multi-sport event, which runs from July 23 to August 2. Glasgow has become the first city to host the Commonwealth Games twice, after previously staging the event in 2014.
