The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) Ghana have signed a strategic partnership with GCB Bank to strengthen athlete development, grassroots sports, and preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

The partnership will support Team Ghana’s long-term development as the country begins its next Olympic cycle following the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Under the agreement, GCB Bank will back key GOC/CGA programmes, including athlete preparation, grassroots sports development, capacity building for sports administrators, and initiatives to promote Olympic and Commonwealth sports across Ghana.

President of the GOC Richard Akpokavie described the partnership as a major boost for Ghana’s sporting ambitions.

“This partnership comes at a critical time as we prepare Team Ghana for the 2026 Commonwealth Games and lay a strong foundation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. GCB Bank’s support demonstrates confidence in our vision and will contribute meaningfully to athlete preparation, the development of our sports structures, and the promotion of the values of excellence, friendship, and respect that define the Olympic Movement.”

GCB Bank’s Chief Marketing, Communications, and Customer Experience Officer, Cynthia Ofori-Dwumfuo, said the partnership reflects the bank’s belief in the power of sport to inspire and create opportunities.

“At GCB Bank, we believe sport has the power to inspire excellence, unite communities, and unlock opportunities for young people. Our partnership with the Ghana Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games Association Ghana reflects our commitment to nurturing talent, promoting national pride, and helping Ghanaian athletes compete successfully on the international stage.”

The partnership is part of the GOC/CGA’s wider strategy to increase private sector support for sports development. Both organisations say the collaboration will strengthen athlete development, improve sports administration, and expand grassroots participation while promoting the Olympic and Commonwealth movements across Ghana.
