The fallout from FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s bold move to sell stakes in the FIFA World Cup continues in a massive way.

The latest is Gianni Infantino’s senior adviser Carlos Cordeiro stepping down from his role over Infantino’s decision to push through with the controversial move.

Cordeiro’s resignation was confirmed on Friday, July 31 in the wake of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) joining UEFA-Europe’s football body- and CONCACAF (Central America, North America and Caribbean Football body) flat out rejecting the proposal brought forth by the FIFA President.

According to the BBC, Cordeiro’s decision to resign stems from “a bad deal for football” and would “mortgage football’s future“.

Infantino earlier this week proposed a move to sell a stake in the FIFA World Cup to a private investor group that would fetch FIFA and its members a windfall of $40 billion via a subsidiary called FIFA Forward Enterprise.

However, the investor group is led by Joshua Krushner who is the brother of Jarred Krushner-the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump.

Infantino’s close relationship with Donald Trump has raised a lot of concerns particularly over Trump’s role in FIFA’s decision to make Folarin Balogun eligible to play in the USA’s round of 16 stage game against Belgium despite being originally suspended for the tie.
