England international Ivan Toney has been charged with assault following an incident at a nightclub in central London last year.

The 30-year-old Al-Ahli striker was charged on 31 July in connection with an incident on Wardour Street in Soho on 6 December.

Toney faces a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm and is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 24 September.

A spokesperson for the former Brentford striker said Toney acknowledges the charge but remains determined to defend himself.

“Ivan acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being given the opportunity to clear his name in court,” the spokesperson said.

Toney is currently playing for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, having moved to Saudi Arabia in 2024 following a successful spell at Brentford.

The striker recently represented England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and started their 6-4 victory over France in the third-place play-off.

Toney began his professional career at Northampton Town before going on to have permanent spells with Newcastle United, Peterborough United and Brentford.

The assault charge now means the England international will face a court hearing in September as he seeks to clear his name.
