Xavi Hernandez says he feels he is a son of Dutch football after getting appointed as head coach of the Netherlands National Men’s Football Team.
He said this in his official statement after he was named as the replacement for Ronald Koeman who stepped down from the head coaching role after the Dutch crashed out of the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup at the round of 32 stage to Morocco.
Xavi who played out most of his career at FC Barcelona before coaching Qatari side Al-Sadd; he returned to Barcelona as a head coach and led the club to win the Spanish La Liga title.
Picking up the Dutch National Team head coaching role is his first venture into national football team coaching role and reveling in his new role by stating,
“As someone who received his training at the Barcelona academy, with strong influences from Johan Cruyff and Rinus Michels, among others, I feel a special connection to Dutch football.”
“You could say that I am a bit of a son of Dutch football. I consider it a tremendous honour to become the national coach of the Dutch national team” he said in a statement.
