Slovan Bratislava head coach Yaya Toure says he is proud of his players after the Slovakian club qualified to the UEFA Champions League Phase.
Toure made history by becoming the first African head coach to lead a club to qualify to the Champions League main group phase.
Slovan Bratislava sealed their spot in the Champions League after securing a 2-1 win over Slovenia side Celje away from home. Bratislava qualified via a 3-2 win on aggregate.
This is the second time ever in the club’s history making it to the group phase of the world’s most prestigious continental football competition.
After sealing qualification, Bratislava players and coaches were spotted celebrating wildly and on his X page, football legend Yaya Toure shared his excitement.
“Proud of my players, staff, the club and our fans! Proud to be in the Champions League together. Proud to be African. Lots more to do. Together!” Yaya Toure said.
Toure won the UEFA Champions League with FC Barcelona in the 2008-2009 season.
