President Mahama dissolves NSA Governing Board with immediate effect

President John Dramani Mahama has dissolved the Governing Board of the National Sports Authority (NSA) with immediate effect.

The directive forms part of a decision to dissolve the boards of several state institutions, including Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), VALCO, Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited, Ghana Post Company Limited, the Road Maintenance Trust Fund, TDC Ghana Limited and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

In a letter conveying the President’s directive, the affected institutions have been instructed to take all necessary steps, in accordance with the applicable laws and governing instruments, to formally notify the outgoing board members.

The respective management teams will continue to oversee the day-to-day operations of the institutions pending the reconstitution of their boards.

However, management has been directed not to take major policy, financial or contractual decisions requiring board approval without prior authorisation from the appropriate authority during the interim period.

National Sports College: Mr. Fuseini Bawa

Ministry of Sports and Recreation: Mr. Samuel Duku Sarfo
Ministry of Finance: Nana Adwoa Owusu-Amoh
Ministry of Education: Mr. Is-Haku Al-Hassan
Security Services Sports Association: Col. Richard Kofi Akoto
Tertiary Institutions: Dr. Luguterah Austin Wontepaga
National Paralympic Committee: Mr. Samson Deen

The development comes at a significant time for Ghanaian football, with the Black Stars preparing for their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

Ghana are scheduled to face The Gambia on September 27, with preparations expected to take place against the backdrop of renewed discussions over the country’s sports infrastructure.

The future and condition of some of Ghana’s major sporting facilities have recently been the subject of public discussion, particularly the Accra Sports Stadium and the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Both facilities remain important venues for national sporting activities, while concerns over their condition have intensified calls for renovation and improved maintenance of the country’s stadia.
