Ghanaian-British boxer Isaac “The Royal Storm” Dogboe has announced his retirement from professional boxing after a 13-year career.

Dogboe, 31, steps away from the sport with a record of 24 wins, including 15 knockouts, and four defeats from 28 professional bouts.

He leaves the ring as Ghana’s youngest-ever world boxing champion, having won the WBO junior featherweight title at the age of 23 in 2018.

Dogboe captured the world title with an 11th-round knockout of American Jessie Magdaleno. He successfully defended the belt once, stopping Japan’s Hidenori Otake in the first round, before losing the title to Mexico’s Emanuel Navarrete.

Known for his aggressive, high-energy style and relentless pressure, Dogboe fought under the battle cry “Neho” an Ewe word meaning “to uproot”.

His boxing journey began long before his professional career. At just 17, he represented Ghana at the 2012 London Olympic Games before turning professional in 2013.

Dogboe later competed at both super bantamweight and featherweight, establishing himself as one of Ghana’s leading boxers of his generation.

His final professional appearance came against Britain’s Nick Ball in a WBC featherweight final eliminator. Dogboe suffered a decision defeat in a highly competitive contest.

In announcing his retirement, Dogboe said he had given his all to boxing and felt the time was right to bring his career to an end.

He now plans to remain involved in the sport from Ghana, focusing on youth development and mentorship as he looks to help guide the country’s next generation of boxing talent.

Dogboe leaves professional boxing as a former world champion whose career included Olympic representation, a world title triumph and more than a decade at the highest level of the sport.
