Women’s 100 metre hurdles world record holder Masai Russell has indicated that she still has more capacity to run faster.
The American sprinter broke Nigerian sprinter Tobi Amusan’s record of 12. 12 seconds by running a time of 12.09 seconds at a Diamond League meeting in Zurich, Switzerland.
This year’s Diamond League is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, September 5 in Brussels, Belgium with Russell set to compete in the women’s hurdles event.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the competition, Russell sounded confident of possibly reducing her world record time further.
“I still feel like I’m in even better shape than where I was last week.”
So that’s kind of crazy to say. I think I just unlocked a new level. So it’ll be interesting to see. It’ll be interesting to just continue to dominate.”
“I’m not putting a limit on anything. I think that there’s still so much room for me to get stronger. Even when I was running the 12.09 race, I didn’t feel like the hurdles were coming up in a way where I couldn’t control it. I do think that there’s a little more in there” Russell said.
