President John Dramani Mahama has announced a total of GH¢684,000 in support from the Sports Development Fund for three Ghanaian clubs representing the country in continental and regional competitions.
Ghana Premier League champions Medeama Sporting Club will receive GH¢342,000, equivalent to US$30,000, while Nations Football Club will receive GH¢228,000, equivalent to US$20,000.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies, Ghana’s representatives in the WAFU B competition, will receive GH¢114,000, equivalent to US$10,000.
The announcement was made when representatives of the clubs paid a courtesy call on President Mahama.
The support is intended to assist the clubs as they represent Ghana in competitions beyond the domestic league.
Presenting the cheques, President Mahama said the government was committed to supporting the clubs and expressed his hope that their campaigns would be successful.
“Medeama Sporting Club will receive GH¢342,000, equivalent to US$30,000,” President Mahama said.
“Nations Football Club will receive GH¢228,000, equivalent to US$20,000.
“Last but certainly not least, perhaps I should have started with the women because they are doing better… Ampem Darkoa Ladies Football Club will receive GH¢114,000, equivalent to US$10,000.”
The financial support comes as the three clubs prepare for their respective continental assignments, with the government hoping their campaigns will bring further success to Ghanaian football.
