Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is confident Ghana will beat Côte d’Ivoire when the two sides meet again in Accra in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on Thursday, September 24, leaving the Ivorians with a 16-15 advantage in the all-time head-to-head record. But Queiroz expects Ghana to level the record in the return fixture.
“We believe Ghana will equalise to have the same number of victories. When Côte d’Ivoire come to play Ghana, we will level the head-to-head to 16 wins each,” Queiroz said after the game. We are going to win. When Côte d’Ivoire come, with all due respect, it will be our turn to win.”
The defeat was Queiroz’s first competitive game in charge of the Black Stars, but he insists it has not affected his confidence in the team.
“This result will not affect our morale and our belief in our players. It doesn’t affect absolutely anything,” he said.
Ghana will now turn their attention to their next Group C qualifier against The Gambia on Tuesday, September 29, at the Accra Sports Stadium, with Queiroz urging the team to recover quickly and prepare for the next game at home.
