Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz believes Ghana created clearer scoring opportunities than Côte d’Ivoire despite losing 2-0 in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Bouaké on September 24.
While Côte d’Ivoire enjoyed more possession, Queiroz said Ghana were more effective in attack and created enough chances to score.
“In terms of possession, Côte d’Ivoire were better than us, but in terms of attacking penetration and creating opportunities, we were better,” he said.
However, Ghana failed to convert their chances, with Queiroz admitting the team lacked inspiration in the final moments.
“Unfortunately, we did not score. We had four clear opportunities to score in front of goal, but it didn’t happen,” he said.
Augustine Boakye, Benjamin Tetteh and Kwasi Sibo were among those who came close to scoring for Ghana. Queiroz said his technical team also switched to a more direct approach during the game to put greater pressure on the Ivorian defence.
“We played a more vertical style with more vertical movements to attack the defensive line of Côte d’Ivoire,” he explained.
He added that the introduction of Tetteh and Felix Afena-Gyan gave Ghana another attacking option and helped create further opportunities.
“We had enough opportunities to score. We have to improve in that department, to improve our ability to score because this is another game that we did not score,” Queiroz said.
