Manchester United’s poor start to the 2026/27 season has intensified scrutiny of the club, with disappointing results and reported player frustration raising fresh questions about its direction.
United are winless in their last five matches, collecting just two points from a possible 15 and increasing pressure on the team to turn its form around.
Their Champions League defeat to Atlético Madrid on Tuesday, October 13, further fuelled concerns, with defender Lisandro Martínez criticising the club’s hierarchy over its summer recruitment.
“I have to control myself a lot. Sometimes it’s a reflection in the mirror of our club at this moment. I expect more from our technical director, I have to be honest. I expected more investment in the summer,” Martínez said.
The comments have added to the debate over United’s struggles, with questions about recruitment and squad management coming into sharper focus.
While some supporters may share Martínez’s concerns about investment, others may argue that the players must take responsibility for their performances.
United have also faced challenges moving players on, with Marcus Rashford’s future among the issues attracting attention. Meanwhile, defensive weaknesses remain a concern after the club conceded 50 goals in the 2025/2026 Premier League season.
However, recruitment alone may not solve the problem. United must also improve their performances, rebuild confidence and establish a clear direction.
With the season still in its early stages, there is time for a turnaround. But unless results improve and concerns over the club’s direction are addressed, the growing frustration could further undermine its campaign.
