FIFA has approved a new financial distribution model for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, increasing preparation funding to US$2.5 million for each participating member association.

The decision was taken by the Bureau of the FIFA Council following the council’s meeting in Zurich, Switzerland, on October 15, 2026.

The financial model will comprise prize money, preparation funds and the FIFA Club Benefits Programme. Players at the tournament in Brazil will also receive the same level of services as their male counterparts at the 2026 Men’s World Cup.

FIFA further confirmed that any surplus generated by the women’s tournament will be distributed among the participating member associations, with a specific amount reserved for players.

Further details of the financial distribution model are expected to be discussed at the next FIFA Council meeting in December 2026.

In another major decision, the United States has been appointed host of the inaugural FIFA Women’s Club World Cup, scheduled for January 5 to 30, 2028.

FIFA said the decision was based on the country’s experience in hosting its tournaments, its established infrastructure and services, and strong stakeholder interest in women’s football.

Qualification will be determined by clubs’ sporting results in their respective confederations’ premier club competitions over a four-year period covering the seasons ending in 2024 and 2027.

The Bureau also adjusted the dates for the final phase of the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup 2027, which will now take place in Miami from January 26 to 31. The two semi-finals will be played on separate days to improve the tournament’s visibility.

Meanwhile, Qatar has been appointed host of the final three matches of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2026.

The FIFA Derby of the Americas will take place on December 9, followed by the FIFA Challenger Cup on December 12, with the final scheduled for December 16.

FIFA also confirmed that the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup, to be hosted by Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, will run from September 17 to October 9.

In a final decision, the Bureau appointed a normalisation committee to oversee the Nigeria Football Federation until May 31, 2027, at the latest.
