Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany is in stable condition after collapsing while watching a training session involving the club’s reserve team on Friday, October 23, 2026.
The 40-year-old reportedly collapsed at Bayern’s Säbener Straße headquarters and required immediate medical attention. An air ambulance helicopter was dispatched to the training ground, but he was eventually taken to a Munich hospital by road ambulance accompanied by an emergency physician.
Kompany has been battling a severe viral infection over the past week, which reportedly aggravated existing hip problems and leg pain. The illness has left him struggling to stand for extended periods and climb stairs.

His health issues had also affected his recent team duties, with the Belgian reportedly delivering a half-time team talk while seated during a match and missing pre-match media obligations earlier in the week.
According to updates from Sky Sports Germany, Kompany is undergoing thorough medical examinations in hospital and remains stable under medical supervision.
Bayern director of sport Max Eberl has stressed that the manager’s health is the club’s priority, assuring that he will be given all the time necessary to recover fully.

In the meantime, Kompany’s assistant coaching staff, led by Aaron Danks, are expected to take charge of first-team training and matchday operations until further notice.
His availability for Bayern’s Bundesliga fixture against Freiburg on Sunday remains uncertain as he continues to undergo medical examinations.
