Spintex Knights have returned to Ghana after being stranded in Libya over an outstanding travel debt, with co-founder Dr Eric Opoku-Antwi renewing his appeal for corporate support ahead of their Basketball Africa League (BAL) Elite 16 campaign.
The Knights won all three games to top Group B in the Division West and secure qualification for the Elite 16, but debts accumulated during their continental campaign delayed their return.
Donations from individuals helped the club raise $3,000 to cover visa-on-arrival charges, while negotiations with its travel agent eventually cleared the way for the team to return to Ghana.
As of Tuesday, October 27, the club owed $30,000 ahead of the Elite 16 tournament, scheduled for November 10 to 15 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Speaking after meeting the team at the Accra International Airport, Dr Opoku-Antwi called on corporate organisations to provide financial support to help the club prepare for the next stage of the competition.

“This is a cry for help to corporate Ghana to step in and help the best basketball team in Ghana that has shown over the past three years every year they enter the BAL, they actually do perform and when that support comes in, I believe that they won’t regret it” he said.
