After Liverpool beat Chelsea 6-5 in a penalty shoot-out to advance to the quarterfinals at the expense of his childhood friend Xabi Alonso who was in the opposite dugout, Iraola will take on his former club AFC Bournemouth in the next round after the draw was confirmed.
Iraola managed Bournemouth for three seasons before joining Liverpool prior to the 2026-2027 season and the Reds will host the Cherries in the quarterfinals in mid-December.
Bournemouth progressed to the quarterfinals in far more convincing fashion than Liverpool by hammering Aston Villa 3-0.
Amine Adli, Lewis Cook and Alvaro Rodriguez scored for Bournemouth against a heavily rotated Unai Emery side.
After beating reigning English Premier League champions Arsenal, League Two side Fleetwood Town FC will take on the winner of the Newcastle United-Everton tie.
