Manchester United staged a remarkable late comeback to salvage a 4-4 draw against Aston Villa at Old Trafford, scoring twice in stoppage time to deny the visitors victory.
The result will offer some relief to head coach Michael Carrick after United recovered from a two-goal deficit and then fought back again after Villa had restored their advantage.
Villa made a blistering start, taking the lead through Alysson in the opening minute before Nicolas Jackson doubled their advantage just three minutes later. The goals meant United were 2-0 down after just three minutes and 42 seconds, the earliest they had fallen two goals behind in a Premier League match.

United responded through captain Bruno Fernandes, who converted a penalty in the 16th minute after Matheus Cunha was brought down in the box.
The hosts continued to press and were rewarded in the 41st minute when Youri Tielemans scored against his former club, finishing a cutback from Noussair Mazraoui to level the contest at 2-2.
However, Villa regained the lead shortly after the restart. John McGinn converted a penalty in the 48th minute after Diogo Dalot fouled Alysson, before Leon Goretzka capitalised on a defensive scramble to make it 4-2 in the 52nd minute.
United looked short of ideas for much of the second half, but their substitutes sparked a late revival.
Joshua Zirkzee pulled one back in the 91st minute, sweeping home a cross from Patrick Dorgu to set up a tense finish.

Then, in the 95th minute, Dorgu rose to meet Fernandes’ corner and headed home the equaliser after Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki failed to deal with the delivery.
United pushed for a winner in the remaining moments, but Fernandes dragged his effort wide as the match ended in an extraordinary 4-4 draw.
