Bristol Rovers offered a touching tribute to former striker, Junior Agogo, who died in London last week.

Rovers, the club Agogo played for the longest, held a minute’s applause in memory of the former Black Stars forward before their match with Oxford City in League One.

Both sets of players stood around the centre circle and applauded for a minute while ‘RIP Junior Agogo’ was displayed on the scoreboard.

The Bristol Rovers fans also sang and chanted his name.

The players also wore shirts with ‘Agogo’ on the back for their warm-up.

Agogo scored 41 times in 126 games for the club. He also contributed six assists during that time.

In West London, another of Agogo’s former teams, Nottingham Forest travelled to face Fulham.

Fans of Forest held their own minute’s applause for Agogo in the 23rd minute, in memory of the shirt number of their former striker.

With the club playing at home to Derby County on Wednesday, it’s expected that the club will prepare a fitting tribute for their former player.

Back in Ghana, Agogo might not have played for a local team professionally but he certainly left a lasting impact.

This was apparent before Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s must-win CAF Champions League match against Kano Pillars on Sunday.

The two teams gathered around the centre circle and held a minute’s silence.

Agogo passed on in England at a hospital last Thursday.

He suffered a stroke in 2015 and underwent rehabilitation two years ago. He died at age 40.

Since his demise, tributes have been pouring in from across the world, including his former clubs, and former teammates.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo also offered his condolences to the family of former Black Stars striker.

In a tweet, the President described Junior Agogo as “a fine player” who represented the nation proudly any time he was called up to the national team.
