Kaizer Chiefs part ways with Ghana’s James Kotei

Ghana’s James Kotei’s stay with South African PSL side, Kaiser Chiefs, has come to an end just six or so months after he signed for the team.

The club announced on Tuesday that it had terminated Kotei’s contract by mutual consent.

Kotei did not feature in coach Ernst Middendorp’s plans at all and he played only once in a Macufe Cup game against Bloemfontein Celtic.

Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager, Bobby Motaung, told the team’s website that despite the high hopes that met Kotei’s arrival, the player and the team just could not get their relationship going and thus, the exit was needed.

“We were happy when James joined us,” Chiefs’ Football Manager, Bobby Motaung says about Kotei’s departure.

“Unfortunately, football has its own dynamics. James didn’t play and we felt that we had to split amicable.”

Kotei also spoke on his time at Kaizer Chiefs and wished the club well in their pursuit for the PSL title.

“I like to thank the club’s Chairman, Kaizer warm reception he gave me and also Bobby Motaung for the love and care he showed me.

Even though I wasn’t successful at Kaizer Chiefs, the love and unity were there. I hugely admire the professionalism of the club. I really hope that Kaizer Chiefs will become champions this season.”

Kotei joined Chiefs from Simba in Tanzania in 2019 and the expectations were that he would be key member of the team but that has not happened.

It is unclear what the next step is for Kotei after leaving Kaizer Chiefs.
