GHPL: Covid-19 has made it difficult for GFA to secure sponsorship – Jesse Agyapong

Vice Chairman of the Ghana Premier League Committee, Jesse Agyapong, has revealed that the Coronavirus outbreak has made it difficult for the Federation to secure sponsorship.

Earlier this year, the committee said it was confident of securing sponsorship for the Ghana Premier League before March, but the onset of the Pandemic across the world has seen their efforts thwarted.

The Ghana Football Association annulled the 2019/2020 season of the Ghana Premier League following uncertainty about the return of football in the country.

“We had a break on a lot of things following the outbreak of COVID-19.

“For at least for five, six corporate organizations’ we have spoken to so far, their willingness to engage was there but unfortunately for us, COVID reared its head,” he said on Asempa FM.

“Now, the good thing is Kurt Okraku toured some corporate institutions last month and the marketing team are also making moves.”

“With the freeing up of the economy after the lockdown, I’m very sure that should the game resume the sponsors who were willing to come with us as at that time will still come back, “he added.

The Ghana Football Association plans to resume football activities in October in consultation with government over the country’s Covid-19 status.

As part of plans for the resumption, the league will be divided into a Northern and Southern zone with games being played in designated stadia across the country.
