CAFCL: Asante Kotoko to make request for 20,000 fans for Nouadibhou game

Kumasi Asante Kotoko will make a request to the Government of Ghana to grant them permission to admit 20,000 fans to the Accra Sports Stadium for the second leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round match Mauritanian side FC Nouadibhou, Communications Director of the club, Moses Antwi-Benefo has revealed.

The Porcupine Warriors will host their Mauritanian counterparts on Saturday December 5, after drawing the first leg 1-1 in Mauritania last Sunday.

We are going to write to the government through the Sports Ministry to allow to us admit fans to the stadium”, Moses Antwi-Benefo told Happy FM.

“When we went to Mauritania, we inquired from them how the fans were at the stadium to watch the game and they indicated that the country laws allow fans to attend the games. CAF also granted them the permission based on the COVID-19 protocols in the country.

So we will plead with the government to allow us to admit about 20,000 fans to the Accra Sports Stadium,” he said.

Football has been played behind closed doors in Ghana since the start of the league season last month, after government went back on an initial agreement to allow 25% capacity at all league venues.

It remains to be seen if Kotoko’s request will be granted.

The club has also written to the Ghana Football Association to change their home venue from Accra to Tamale in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season.

Kotoko have used the Accra Sports Stadium for their home games following the closure of the Baba Yara Stadium for renovation in March 2020.
