Striker Kwame Opoku is on the verge of completing a transfer to Algerian giants USM Alger from Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
According to Citi Sports sources, the player has already put pen to paper on a 3 year contract, with only an official announcement pending.
The transfer fee is worth €500,000 Euros in gross, according to sources, with Kotoko expected to earn roughly 325,000 Euros of that money, approximately 65% of the gross contract sum.
The other 200,000 Euros, or 35% of the gross contract sum, will go to various parties and Citi Sports brings you a break down of who is earning how much.
Kwame Opoku’s former club, Nkoranza Warriors will earn €75,000 or 15% as onward transfer fees. When Opoku joined Kotoko a year ago, Warriors inserted a clause that entitled them to 15% of any transfer fees Kotoko acrued from a sale of the player.
The Ghana Football Association will take their mandatory 10% (€50,000), half of which will be given to the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA). As mandated by the GFA Statutes, the country’s football governing body is entitled to 10% of the fees for all transfer of Ghanaian players out of the country.
The agent, who brokered the deal, will also take 10% of the fees, or €50,000. The curious case here is that per FIFA Regulations, agency fees should be between 3% – 5% of the transfer fee. The 10% is double the FIFA limit in this case.
