See the 20 highest-scoring midfielders in the 21st century

A list of the highest-scoring midfielders over the last two decades includes some of the world’s biggest names in the history of the games.

Only two players on transfermarkt’s list have scored above 200 goals, with both of them featuring prominently in the Premier League.

Former Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard’s 206 goals from midfield are only bettered by Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard, who found the net an amazing 261 times for the Blues, West Ham, Man City and New York City.

In third place is another player who graced the Premier League, former Tottenham player, Rafael van der Vaart.

Borussia Dortmund captain, Marco Reus is the highest placed active player while Man City playmaker, Kevin De Bruyne, who is better known for his assists, has still scored 127 goals.

8. David Silva (148 goals in 778 games)

9. Marek Hamsik (147 goals in 645 games)

10. Christian Eriksen (142 goals in 618 games)

11. Juan Mata (139 goals in 617 games)

12. Cesc Fabregas (138 goals in 812 games)

13. Arturo Vidal (136 goals in 682 games)

14. Gini Wijnaldum (135 goals in 621 games)

15. Bryan Ruiz (132 goals in 527 games)

16. Steffen Hoffman (128 goals in 541 games)

17. Kevin De Bruyne (127 goals in 555 games)

18. Wesley Sneijder (122 goals in 504 games)

19. James Rodriguez (122 goals in 439 games)
