Ghanaian boxer, Richard Commey has sent a warm appreciation message to his fans and the people of Ghana for their support following his defeat to Ukrainian boxer, Vasyl Lomachenko at the Madison Square Gardens in New York on Sunday, December 12, 2021.

In a social media post, the 34-year-old stated that he was “grateful” for the support he got and that he “tried his best but unfortunately not enough” to win the highly anticipated bout.

To all the fans and my people back home in Ghana I’m so grateful for your support, sorry I couldn’t do it, I tried my best but unfortunately it wasn’t good enough, I love you all and God bless all of you ❤️🇬🇭❤️🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧❤️

In a lightweight bout between former world champions, Vasiliy Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) dropped and outboxed Richard Commey (30-4, 27 KOs) to secure a unanimous decision win with the judges scoring it 117-110, 119-108, 119-108.

Commey started the fight strongly, landing a few heavy punches, but that perceived dominance didn’t last long, with Lomachenko exhibiting great character and skill to outclass the Ghanaian.

The Ukrainian, slowly came into the fight from the second round, with his hard jabs and incredible speed, which Commey struggled to cope with as he was utterly dominated in the fight at the Madison Square Gardens.

Speaking after the fight, Commey said he always fights for his country Ghana and felt he let the nation down with his defeat.

“I fight for my country; I fight for my people. I let them down, but I believe I’m going to come back stronger,” he said.
