The University of Ghana (UG) will participate in the 10th Federation of African Universities Sports (FASU) Games which will take place from 6th to 10th June 2022 at the Kenyatta University, Nairobi, Kenya.

The UG team will depart Ghana for Kenya on Sunday, June 5, 2022, to compete in the 10th FASU Games.

UG will be making a third appearance at the biggest tertiary sports festival on the African Continent since the rules were changed for individual Universities from countries to participate in the Games rather than national University delegations.

UG participated in the 8th and 9th editions hosted by the University of Johannesburg, South Africa and Mekelle University, Ethiopia in 2016 and 2018 respectively.

UG improved on the 2016 performance (4 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals in five disciplines) in 2018 winning 5 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal in three disciplines (Basketball, Badminton and Tennis) placing fifth in the medal table.

Out of the twelve (12) disciplines, UG will participate in five (5) namely; Athletics, Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis and Tennis.

The University of Ghana Basketball Team will defend its trophy won back to back in 2016 and 2018 after missing the 2020 edition due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

Speaking in an interview with Citi Sports, the Director of Sports at the University of Ghana Dr Bella Bello Bitugu says he is confident in the prospects of his athletes and expects a lot of medals from the team.

He also added that the Sports Directorate of the University of Ghana is special as they incorporate academia and sports to help churn out the best graduates for the country and the world.

The UG contingent is made up of twenty-six (26) student-athletes, a Student Leader, five (5) Coaches, two (2) Sports Organisers, a Medical Doctor, the Senior Assistant Registrar of the Sports Directorate (Deputy Head of Delegation) and the Director of Sports (Head of Delegation).

The twenty-six student-athletes include the likes of the famous University of Ghana Basketball team, national sprinter, Grace Obour and first-timer Abigail Brew Anderson (table tennis).
