Former NBA player Pops Mensah-Bonsu has pegged the situation of developing basketball programs for Ghanaian youth as a void that needs to be filled.

He said this in an interview with CITI Sports at the Basketball Africa League (BAL) Experience held in Accra as preparations continue ahead of the commencement of BAL’s third edition.

Former Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors player Mensah-Bonsu, is set to headline a two day basketball development camp under his SEED Academy: Ghana at the University of Ghana on Thursday, December 29 and Friday, December 30.

“This is our third camp but we had to take a break because of COVID but I felt like in between that short period, we missed an opportunity. When I came in 2010…I felt like there was a void that needed to be filled so for this third camp we want to build on what we did the first time” he stated.

Mensah-Bonsu was born in England and is of Ghanaian descent and represented Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics held in London.

The BAL is the NBA’s first basketball league organized outside North America and features 12 teams representing 12 African nations.
