King Faisal Football Club’s efforts to reverse their relegation from the Ghana Premier League have encountered a significant obstacle.
The Appeals Committee of the Ghana Football Association has rejected a protest lodged by the Kumasi-based club against Tamale City.
The team led by Alhaji Grusah claimed that City fielded an ineligible player, Isaac Mensah, who was also registered under the name Jireh Kojo Nissi.
Nevertheless, the GFA Appeals upheld the previous decision of the GFA Disciplinary Committee, which dismissed the protest.
“The Appeals Committee has also dismissed King Faisal FC’s appeal against the Disciplinary Committee decision in their protest case against Tamale City FC”, a statement from the GFA read.
“Affirming the Disciplinary Committee’s decision, the Appeals Committee charged the GFA Prosecutor to investigate the registration of player Jireh Kojo Nissi and prosecute all guilty parties.
The Appeals Committee also ruled that the 2021/22 Division One League season registration of Jireh Kojo Nissi should be expunged from the records of the GFA since it was later in time to the registration of Isaac Mensah.”
The latest decision means King Faisal will be playing in next season’s Division One League Zone 2 after a four-year stay in the elite division.
The club’s last relegation was in the 2013/2014 Ghana Premier League season.
