Dreams Football Club Administrative Manager Ameenu Shardow has admonished the infrastructural deficit in Ghana that has seeped into sports particularly football.

He said this in an exclusive chat on Citi FM’s Sports Panorama in the wake of Dreams’ 2-1 win over FC Kallon of Sierra Leone at the Accra Stadium in the first of two legs in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Dreams is competing in the continental tournament for the first time and has made it to the second round but commenting on the terrible playing surface at the Accra Sports Stadium, the administrator bemoaned the poor level of infrastructure in the country.

“We all saw the nature of the pitch. At a point in time, I even advised my boys not to be giving back passes to the goalkeeper because of the undulating nature of the pitch. We have a lot of work to do and I keep saying Ghana, let us not be hypocritical about these issues. We have a huge infrastructural deficit and that’s what has eaten into the sports industry specifically football.

If we (Dreams FC) manage to qualify to the group phase, we have to change certain things to be able to use the Accra Stadium as a home ground and if we make it to the semifinal, there is no venue in Ghana that can host a semifinal (Confederation Cup) game per the club licensing [criteria].
