Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, says the young players in his team are talented and have the right attitude but lack in “game psychology”.
He said this in a press briefing organized by the club in the face of a poor run that has had the Porcupine Warriors record two draws and two losses in the past four games.
Addressing the media, Dr. Ogum pointed out that Kotoko has had to rely on young players originally recruited to star in the youth setup but forced into first team play because of the absence of experienced players in the team.
He added that the young players are doing better in training to merit selection to match day squads despite they missing out on elements of the game’s psychology.
“They are supposed to be part of the youth team that we will build but we secured them because they were available so that with time, they would come in. Because we have not actually kick started the youth team, that’s why they are training with them-fist team.”
“Now, they are training and we are seeing that they are showing glimpses of being capable of playing in terms of what we see at training so we give them the opportunity but physically they are there, technically they are there, tactically they are there.”
“The key component which is the psychology of the game, that’s what is affecting those young boys that is it.”
