Ghana’s quest to reach the medal zone in the beach volleyball competition at the 13th African Games has fallen short in both the men’s and women’s categories.
Team Ghana got eliminated at the quarterfinals stage in both divisions at the Laboma Beach with the Men’s Team losing in two straight sets to Morocco via a 21-16 and 21-17 result.
In the Women’s Division, Ghana lost by the same margin to Mozambique despite a lengthy medical break after a Mozambique player picked up an injury in the second set. Ghana lost 9-21 and 8-21 respectively to Mozambique.
Crashing out at the quarterfinals, means Ghana has fallen short of the promise made by Paul Akan and Men’s National head coach Chapnuor Eden after beating Algerian in a close contest Ghana won by two sets to one.
Veteran Ghanaian player Seidu Adjanaku attributed Ghana’s loss to fatigue saying, “We played four games, they played only two games so there was a lot of fatigue and they’ve been to the World Championship they are really good and we are sorry we couldn’t get the energy to beat them.”
In the Men’s Division, South Africa take on Sierra Leone while Botswana take on the nation that beat host nation Ghana in the quarterfinals, Morocco.
In the Women’s semifinals, Rwanda will take on Egypt.
