Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chairman for the 2023 African Games, has explained why paper used in printing identification tags for media persons who covered the competition was of low quality.
He said this in his address at a media briefing organized by the LOC to address misinformation connected to the 13th African Games that was held in Ghana earlier this year.
After stating that insurance cover for the Games was 3.9 million Ghana Cedis and not $4.5 million as reported by some quarters, Dr. Ofosu-Asare added that issues at the port in connection to the importation of paper to print competition tags affected the overall quality of the tags. “There was a mistake that affected the paper. At the time they realized that there was no way they could import or bring in papers of that standard so…that was the best they could use for us to get the accreditation (tags) sorted out and don’t forget that that wasn’t the only thing they were supposed to do so if we had dismissed them entirely based on that, we would have lost everything.”
