Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chairman for the 2023 African Games, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, has debunked claims that $4.5 million was spent to cover insurance for the Games.
Dr. Ofosu-Asare stated that 3.9 million Ghana Cedis was rather spent on insurance to cover the 13th African Games held in Ghana from March 8 to March 23 with the newly constructed Borteyman Sports Complex and renovated University of Ghana Stadium hosting a majority of the events.
He said this in a press briefing to debunk the above mentioned issue and other issues the LOC believes are misinformed statements concerning the Games.
“Insurance cover was 3,931, 402.64 Ghana Cedis and not $4.5 million…media persons are erroneously spewing into the public domain. We never spent the tax payer’s money to the tune of $4.5 million on insurance.”
The LOC added that the reason for its delayed response to such controversial issues was down to the Committee putting a comprehensive report together in the aftermath of the African Games.
