Greater Accra Hockey Association Vice Chairman, Derrick Tamakloe, has provided details on the breakdown of a renewed sponsorship package for the Greater Accra Hockey League.

He did this during an event held at the Theodosia Okoh Stadium to announce a sponsorship package from Sapholda Ventures Limited to the league ahead of the 2024 season.

Greater Accra Hockey Vice Chairman Tamakloe and Ebo Acquaye, Head of Sales and Marketing for Sapholda Ventures, led the delegation from either party at the event.

Under the new terms of the sponsorship package that was originally signed last year, the Hockey League will get a 100,000 Ghana Cedis financial benefit. This is a 50,000 Ghana Cedis increase from the original deal. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Speaking at the event, the Greater Accra Hockey Association Vice Chairman said the package will be broken down into three sects.

“Basically we will be using this package for development of the players. This time we are giving all clubs equal opportunity to train on the astro turf so Greater Accra Hockey Association is renting the pitch not for the league alone as we usually do but this year we are renting the pitch a whole week for the individual clubs to train on the turf. This will take about 40% of the money.”

“We will use about 20% to facilitate refresher course for technical officials like umpire judges and then we will use the other 30% to support the youth teams. Some of the community based teams are far away as far as Kasoa. Teams are even coming from Cape Coast though they play in the Greater Accra league. Teams are coming from Tema and we will give them support in terms of transport.”

The 2024 season first round runs from April 27 to June 8 with all games set to be played at the Theodosia Okoh Stadium.
