Chairman of the Accra Basketball League, Ayitey Bulley, says his outfit in partnership with the Ghana Basketball Federation is exploring options to provide improved infrastructure for the league.
He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports in the wake of the start of the 2024 ABL Season at the Prisons Court in Cantonments.
The ABL Chairman made this address as league games continue to be affected by rainfall during the rainy season. The 2023 African Games held in Ghana forced the 2024 ABL Season to commence later than its usual start date in March forcing a hefty number of league games to be played in the rainy months of June, July and August.
“We do have offers from some international partners to build courts and we are still working at it. We need to find suitable available property that can be earmarked for us to use for the league. We are looking at places like Efua Sutherland Park where there is quite a bit of space there and we could build a semi indoor court. So you have your court with rafters on the side and a covering.”
10 teams are competing in the ABL Men’s Division I and Women’s Division respectively with 20 teams competing in the Men’s Division II.
