Ghanaian Super middleweight contender Sena Agbeko believes that the reason Canelo Alvarez has refused to fight David Benavidez is down to a lack of respect from the Benavidez camp.
Agbeko said this in an exclusive interview with ChannelOne Sports as he prepares to fight Osleys Iglesias in Canada in his first fight this year. The fight will take place on August 17.
Nicknamed The African Warrior, Agbeko last fought in 2023 where he lost to David Morrell in the second round via knockout in Minnesota.
Agbeko was in Alvarez’s camp to help the Mexican superstar prepare for his fight against Jaimie Munguia that Canelo won and believes David Benavidez’s disrespect towards Alvarez is the reason Alvarez has ignored him all this while.
“I was with him (Canelo Alvarez) for seven weeks to help him prepare for Jaimie Munguia and I had the chance of course to ask him personally what his opinion was on the Benavidez situation and I think personally, it’s a respect thing for him.”
“He’s the man right now, he’s is in a position of power, he has the influence, he feels that Benavidez and his family, his team have on so many occasions disrespected him. In much like most things in life, if you displease somebody and they have the power to affect your life, they will affect your life.”
