Ghana’s Harry Stacey has missed out on qualifying to the next round of the 2024 Olympic Games in swimming.
Stacey finished seventh in Heat 4 of the Men’s 100 Metre Freestyle event with a time of 51.12 seconds.
Cyprus’ Nikola Antoniou won the heat with a time of 50.35 seconds and Jayhan Odlum-Smith of Saint Lucia and Yousuf Almatrooshi finished second and third respectively in a time of 50.39 seconds.
Stacey had the fourth best mark at the 50 metre mark with a time of 24.11 seconds behind Anroniou’s 23.60, Almatrooshi’s 23.65 and Leo Nolles of Uruguay’s 23.92 seconds.
Stacey is one of two Ghanaian swimmers representing Ghana at the 2024 Olympics with Joselle Mensah competing in the Women’s 50 Metre Freestyle on August 2.
The Marlins Swim Club product missed out on qualifying to the semifinals and Stacey couldn’t improved his personal best time (50.57) to set a new national record. Stacey holds the Ghanaian record.
