The former Marlins Swim Club competitor also missed out on improving his national record time of 50.57 seconds over the distance.
Speaking after the heat, Stacey stated that his showing in his debut Olympics wasn’t his best performance and looked at the positive side of competing at the highest level.
“I’m not too mad at the performance, but it wasn’t my best showing. It’s been a learning experience and definitely building blocks for the future. I am hoping to come back for the next Olympics. I’ve learnt a lot already.”
Stacey is one of two Ghanaian swimmers at the 2024 Olympic Games; Joselle Mensah is set to compete in the Women’s 50 Metres Freestyle on August 2.
