Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has reacted to the news of CAF’s decision to halt the Baba Yara Sports Stadium from hosting international football games or Category 3 games until facilities at the edifice are improved.
Otto Addo reacted to this news on the sidelines of the CAF Coaches Symposium taking place in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire. The West African nation hosted the last AFCON and ended up winning the competition in a very dramatic style that got many fans and observers to describe the tournament as the best ever.
The symposium in Cote D’Ivoire’s economic capital has attracted the likes of Zambia head coach Avram Grant, Côte D’Ivoire head coach Emerse Fae, Namibia head coach Benjamin Collin and Angola head coach Pedro Goncalves.
Ghana lost 1-0 to Angola in a 2025 AFCON qualifier at the Baba Yara Stadium and Goncalves and Addo slammed the poor quality of the pitch. The Stadium’s pitch has been panned dating back to the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff tie between Ghana and Nigeria.
With the Black Stars very likely to play its upcoming home games away from Ghana, Otto Addo expressed his disappointment over the situation stating,
“It’s really a pity. We always love to play in front of our home crowd but at the end of the day we have to do the best out of this situation. If we have to play somewhere else, then it’s like that. I don’t want to use my energy to think too much about that because it’s not in our hands, there is nothing we can do about it, it’s CAF’s decision.”
“I hope that we manage all the things so that we can play at home as fast as possible for our crowd to see us.”
