President of Africa’s football governing body (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has seemingly criticized Ghana for its inability to have a football venue suitable to host a Category 3 game.
Category 3 games according to CAF Regulations are games that have to be played at a venue that seats at least 30,000 spectators and Ghana (at the time of writing), doesn’t have any venue of such quality following the withdrawal of approval of the Baba Yara Stadium to host games by CAF.
CAF withdrew the approval of the Baba Yara Stadium after several complaints were made about the stadium’s terrible pitch in recent years.
In his speech after inspecting football infrastructure development in Kenya, Dr. Motsepe indirectly criticized Ghana in the wake of the development that has been widely slammed as “embarrassing”.
“You can’t build football in Africa in any country when the National Team and clubs can’t play in front of their nation…I’m very clear that we’ve made good success in reducing the number of countries that play outside their countries.”
Ghana is slated to play against Sudan in a 2025 AFCON qualifier in either Togo or Cote D’Ivoire in October. Scroll down to watch video.
