Reports reaching Citi Sports indicate that James Kwasi Appiah has temporarily stepped down from his role as a Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council Member.

The temporary step down from Ghana football’s most powerful decision making body is expected to take effect immediately and conclude at the end of November later this year when the international windows for 2024 close.

This development comes in the wake of Africa’s football governing body, CAF, giving Kwasi Appiah an October 8 ultimatum to step down from his role as either a GFA EXCO Member or head coach of Sudan’s National Men’s Football Team. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

The ultimatum was issued by CAF since Appiah occupies the dual role in the lead up to Ghana’s crucial 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Sudan on October 10 and October 14 that breaches “conflict of interest” rules by CAF and FIFA.

Sudan ranks second in Group F with three points after beating Niger and losing 2-1 to Angola while Ghana ranks third in the group after losing 1-0 at home to Angola and drawing 1-1 with Niger.

The Black Stars need a win to avoid being in serious danger of missing out on qualifying to the AFCON for the first time since the 2004 edition.
