West Ham United midfielder Mohammed Kudus has become the fifth Ghanaian footballer to be nominated for the Puskas Award. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
The Black Stars player joined Michael Essien (nominated in 2009), Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu (nominated in 2012), Kevin-Prince Boateng (nominated in 2017) and Sandra Owusu Ansah (nominated in 2021).
The former Ajax Amsterdam player made the shortlist for this year’s award after scoring a brilliant goal in West Ham’s 5-1 win over Freiburg in the 2023-2024 UEFA Europa League season.
Kudus picked up the ball in his half and dribbled past three players before scoring the first of a brace in the Round of 16 stage win.
The goal marked another high point in Kudus’ brilliant debut season at West Ham which ended in a second place finish in West Ham’s Player of the Year Award.
Kudus is also the fourth African player to be nominated for the 2024 Puskas Award; Yassine Benzia of Algeria, Denis Omedi of Uganda and Paul Onuachu of Nigeria also made the list.
